Podiatry Returns to SportsMed Murdoch

Podiatrists, Benjamin Hodgetts and Michael Taranto join the SportsMed Murdoch team as of next week. They will specialise in lower limb sports medicine, the rehabilitation of lower limb injuries; ankle injuries, muscle strains and tears, knee pain/ injuries, hip instability and lower back pain through lower limb alignment and barefoot strengthening that may be affecting your whole-body's functionality.

They will work alongside the sports doctors, physiotherapists, nutritionists and massage therapists to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to achieve their patient goals. Amongst other things, the sports focused podiatrist’s will accurately diagnose, then structure and design patient specific programs that suit patient goals for optimal rehabilitation of foot, ankle and lower limb injuries, which may require lower limb physical therapy; dry needling, massage, orthotics, taping, joint mobilisations and exercise prescription. 

Ben graduated with his Bachelor of Podiatry from the University of Newcastle. He realised that west is best and made the move to Perth in 2015.

Ben is a functional sports podiatrist and strength and conditioning coach. He has a special interest in sports podiatry, functional movement, mobility, exercise prescription, barefoot rehabilitation, biomechanics and paediatrics. 

With a background in competitive sports such as athletics, sailing and rugby league. Ben works well with sports persons and teams of all ages and has been involved in sprint, strength and conditioning coaching for some time. 

Ben enjoys getting to know patients and providing a holistic, patient-focused level of care. 

In his spare time, Ben enjoys being outdoors, listening to podcasts, training, travelling, surfing and hanging out with his better half and their two dogs.

Michael is a dedicated podiatric surgeon who holds First Class Honours and a Post Graduate Degree in Podiatry from Curtin University and a Masters of Medical Science Research Degree from the University of Western Australia.

Whilst studying at Curtin University, Michael achieved membership to the Vice Chancellors List, recognising him among the top 1% of Curtin University students.

He has also had his research papers published in international scientific journals including The Foot, Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery and the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association.

He keeps up his fitness so that he can continue to undertake the swim component of the Busselton half ironman every year. It also helps him tag team with his equally fit wife, Julie, to provide the best patient care and availability in the clinic.
